My vaping journey has been pretty well documented. However, I started smoking around the age of 15 or 16…I can’t remember exactly. Toward the end of my tobacco smoking, I was getting through at least 30 tailor-mades a day, and countless rollies in the evening. Basically, I’d only smoke roll-ups at home, so normal routing was, I’d get in from work, have tea, grab a couple of hours kip, then sit up all night on the patio doing stuff on the laptop. That generally was either personal projects, or most commonly, doing out of hours stuff remotely for work. I’d chain smoke these roll-ups until I got to work in the morning, then switch to the tailor-mades. Anyway, on the morning of July 4th, 2012 I got out of bed, went downstairs, put the kettle on and started my routine as usual. For some reason, I decided to search the web for ecigs. I’d seen these in places like Tesco before, but pretty much dismissed them. How could something battery powered replace smoking ? I thought to myself. Dismissing it as a passing fad. So anyway, I looked them up. Saw a few YouTube videos enthusing how great these ecigs where. My other half had just been told a few days prior that her contract would be coming to an end, so I figured this would be a good way to tighten the purse strings a bit. So after looking around, I settled on a SkyCigs starter kit. For those not familiar, this contained 2 cigalike batteries, 5 cartmosers and a case, which you charged via USB, and in turn that would charge the cigalike battery. Perfect I thought, would mean that I’d have a constant supply through the day. So I place the order. Now, I started thinking…this is going to take a few says to arrive, I need to get something now, or I’d just not use them when they do. So I jumped in the car and drove to my local Tesco garage. I then picked up a couple of disposable ecigs – 10 Motives in fact. Heading back to the car, I took one out of the packet. Put it to my lips, and with a degree of cynicism, took a drag. Bugger me! It did something! I drove back home, constantly puffing on this thing, big grin on my face. I don’t mind admitting here that more than one occasion on the drive home, I took a peek at myself in the rear view mirror, with this plastic fag in my mouth, with it’s glowing green tip and thought…’damn, this is cool‘ So I get home, I pop upstairs to the bedroom, where the missus was still blissfully asleep. I woke her up with..’You have to try these!‘ I gave her the second disposable I picked up. She too was surprised. These lasted us a couple of days, when I came home from work to find the Sky Cigs kit had arrived. This was even better. There where other flavours! cherry! vanilla! magnificent! A week later, I started looking for other people using these things. It was then that I discovered eGo batteries, CE4’s and this whole world opened up for me. During my journey, I’ve met many people who have had a similar experience, I’ve made new friends in circles I would never have even considered before. I organised vape meets. It was just simply a whole new chapter on my life. If you’d have told me 3 years ago, I’d end up as a presenter on the UK’s most prestigious vaping channel, rubbing shoulders with American reviewers and attending these conventions, being recognised by viewers. I would’ve simply laughed at you.
